{ kaia + daniel } - vue on halcyon

bride and groom spinning on beautiful grass hill

We were so thrilled to have the opportunity to be the wedding photographer of this beautiful couple:

Daniel & Kaia first met at university as we studied the same course. They were 21 at the time.

Daniel plucked up the courage to talk to Kaia in the corridor at uni one day but it was really at the end of year ball that they spent time together and had their first date the week later! It was at the Docklands at glow-in-the-dark mini golf and then dinner on the water. It was the best! Ever since then they were inseparable.

Daniel was the mastermind behind the proposal and he couldn’t have organised a more perfect one. He had the ring designed and made without Kaia knowing, chose a weekend where they could drive down to Jan Juc beach and he proposed on the headlands overlooking the ocean at sunset. It is her favourite place in the world and it was magical.

Daniel & Kaia chose to get married at Vue on Halcyon because they actually fell in love with the reception centre roof. It’s domed and all made of wood and the wooden tones throughout were a beautiful vibe. Then there were the huge open windows looking out over the green rolling hills and vines that let nature be the best backdrop they could ask for. They also loved that the venue had a little chapel as an indoor ceremony option as well.

They wrote their own vows which perfectly suited to them. Kaia was so glad they did as it made the ceremony so organic and personalised.

Kaia's favourite part of the day was walking herself down the aisle and looking at Daniel’s face.

The colours of their wedding was kept very simple in greens and white, mostly in the florals. Then there was just a touch of dusky pink that came from the bridesmaid dresses and the linen napkins on the table to tie it together. They wanted something clean and elegant that wasn’t too over the top.

With wedding decor Kaia thought keeping things simple and clean was the key. Then adding in pops of colour that she loved that matched the theme of the bridesmaids was the key. She got her main inspiration from pinterest!

They loved the flowers! Valley Blooms did an incredible job from the planning stage through to execution. They kept the florals to a simple white and green colour scheme which was elegant. Their linen was also mostly white, however they got dark blush pink linen napkins to add that pop of colour. Another thing Kaia loved about our table setting was the laser cut wooden names she had made as our place cards. They looked great tying in with the wooden elements of the reception hall, and our guests loved having their own name piece to take home.

The first dance! The couple wanted to do a choreographed dance and went to lessons to learn it for weeks before hand. It was really a lot of fun and then being able to pull it off on the night was amazing!

Daniel & Kaia had a pretty easy run in the planning of the day. They gave themselves plenty of time (18months) to plan and slowly did it over that time so nothing was left last minute. They had a pretty clear and simple idea for the day it was easy to plan and they absolutely loved doing it! Daniel was also a huge help and they did almost everything together so it was great for both of us.
