Fun and Creative Ideas for Engagement Photos in Melbourne

Fun and Creative Ideas for Engagement Photos in Melbourne

One of you has finally popped the question, and it's time to announce your engagement to the world. Of course, you'll want to tell family and friends in person, but most couples want to share their happiness on social media with a great set of engagement photos. Sadly, lots of engagement pictures all look the same. Isn't there a more creative way to say "Engaged" than holding up a hand with a ring on it? Of course there is - your engagement pics should tell your story as a couple and reflect who you are as people.

If you've already agreed that you want to marry, then you might think about hiring a wedding photographer in Melbourne for the presentation of the ring. Some couples decide on a venue together, some leave it up to one partner to set up a suitably romantic location - though it's unlikely to be a surprise if you've got a photographer following you around. There's nothing wrong with a picture of one of you down on one knee, but there are millions of "He/She said yes!" photos out there. Think about what makes you unique.

Location is essential, but it's not just to make the picture look lovely. A forest glade might make a romantic backdrop, but if neither of you spends any time walking in the forest, why would you go there for engagement photos? Choose a location that's important to you. It could be where you first met, or a place that holds other special memories. It could even be your own home. If your favourite place is snuggling up together on the couch, why not have pictures taken there? This is your engagement and these are your pictures, so they should feel real, not forced and posed. There are a lot of great locations for your engagement photos in Melbourne such as Mornington, Mount Dandenong, Melbourne CBD surroundings and laneways in Fitzroy or Brunswick etc.

What do you like to do together? Are you into sports or music, art or collecting? Include your hobbies and activities in your pictures. If you met at a vintage clothes fair, dress up in your very best outfit - or find creative ways to combine your wardrobes. If rock climbing is your passion, then a picture of the two of you wearing helmets and carrying ropes will look a hundred times more natural and fun than a posed picture in a studio. Your engagement photos should be full of all the things you love, not just each other.

And speaking of things that you love, what about your pets? You probably wouldn't be marrying your partner if they didn't get on with your pet, so include them in the pictures. Whether you own a stable full of horses or a goldfish in a bowl, make sure your animal friends feature in your pics. And if you both own animals, there's nothing more adorable than a picture of your two pets coming together to announce your engagement.

Get creative with photo editing tools. Do you each have pictures of your own parents' weddings (or photos of them as a couple)? Why not combine them with a picture of you and your partner? A montage of the two of you flanked by the previous generation of happy couples will certainly bring a lump to the throat, and it's a great way to pay tribute to the people who brought you up.

Engagement photos are an essential way of sharing your good news on social media, but they shouldn't be limited to a person down on one knee and a close up of a ring. Choose a location that's important to you, not one that's generically romantic-looking. Include all your passions, including your pets. Get creative with montages and exciting ways to combine your family stories. Tell everyone your story, and share the love!
